DONGHO LEE, Chamber Music, Organ and Strings
On Thursday evening, September 14th, at 8 p.m. we will be honored to present DONGHO LEE, Director of Music at Belmont Presbyterian Church, Belmont, NC and First Prize Winner of the 2010 AGO National Young Artists Competition in Organ Playing, in a program of chamber music for organ and strings. Joining Ms. Lee for the concert, which will be held in the Charles E. Daniel Memorial Chapel on the Furman campus, will be violinist NICHOLAS KITCHEN and cellist YEESUN KIM. Mr. Kitchen and Ms. Kim are faculty members of the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, and founding members of the renowned Borromeo Quartet. Ms. Lee, Mr. Kitchen and Ms. Kim will perform works for organ and violin (Vitali, Chaconne), organ and cello (Bruch, Canzone), and two works for violin, cello and organ: Rheinberger’s Trio, Opus 150 and Saint-Saens’ La Muse et le Poéte.
Ms. Lee’s concert is the first of three programs on the 2017-18 Hartness Organ Series, featuring the 42-stop C.B. Fisk organ (2004) in Daniel Chapel. The other programs are a solo recital by Katelyn Emerson, winner of the 2016 AGO National Competition in Organ Playing (Thursday, October 5th, 8 p.m.) and a recital by Nigel Potts, Organist and Master of the Choristers at Grace Cathedral (Episcopal), Charleston, SC (Thursday, January 25th, 8 p.m.). Mr. Potts’ recital, presented in conjunction with Furman’s 2018 Church Music Conference, will include Edward Elgar’s song cycle Sea Pictures, for which he will be joined by his wife, soprano Sarah Rose Taylor.
I have attached the official Furman press release for Dongho Lee’s September 14th concert, as well as a poster for that program.
